Dear Parents and Carers,
Can you believe that here we are at the end of the school year! This half term has been especially action packed with Sports Day, International Week with dancers and African drummers, hatching chicks, a Punch and Judy Show, a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Sublime Science and the Queen’s Picnic Lunch to name just a few of our enrichment activities.
Thank you to the Friends of Manby Lodge for organising a fantastic Summer Fair. Despite the weather there was a good turnout. Mrs Mullarkey and I had the privilege of being able to taste all of the cake bake entries and, along with other members of staff, enjoyed a good soaking! A special thanks to the co-chairs of FoML:
Jess Moody and Marianne Baxter, Vice Chair: Amanda Tomlinson, Secretary: Helen Waddington and Treasurer: Anna Sen who have done a fantastic job this year.
Once again I would like to thank you all for your support. The whole school community has worked exceptionally hard this year and your children have made fantastic progress, both academically, socially and emotionally. They are great ambassadors for the school and I am proud to be their Head Teacher. We look forward to welcoming you all back on September 7th and this will be especially exciting as we will be in our new school building. I shall send you further details with regard to accessing the school and the children’s new classrooms nearer the time.

Goodbye and Good Luck! All of us here at Manby Lodge would like to wish all of our Year 2 children the best of luck in their new schools. They have been a fantastic Year 2 who have proven to be excellent role models to our younger children. Their new schools are very lucky!

Dear Parents and Staff,
As your new elected Chair of Governors of Manby Lodge School, it is my pleasure to firstly introduce myself but also inform you of the vision and the direction the Board of Governors wish to follow.
Firstly we believe that the School must be a wonderful place for the children to want to come and learn. We believe that this is clearly evident by the smiles and happiness shown by all the children. We want Manby Lodge to be an extension of home and provide a learning experience and nurture the children so they can easily move on to junior school.
Secondly, the children are the heartbeat of the school and we need to ensure their safeguarding which is of paramount importance to your Governors.
We are delighted that the School is doing well on the learning front and we have to be mindful of the standards that we set ourselves and to ensure we do not become complacent. We are hugely excited by the development of the new school building. This has been a project under consideration by the Governors for a number of years and it will provide tailor made classrooms with plenty of space and natural light along with up to date learning aids such as an interactive TV
in every class. We look forward to the September term when all the classrooms will be in operation.
Finally we are delighted that we have gained feeder status with Cleves School from September 2017, which allows the parents to gain comfort that there is a natural progression for their children following the end of Year 2.
The Board of Governors are constantly involved with the school both from standards and achievements as well as monitoring fiscal controls. We do have a vacancy for another Parent Governor and should you wish to be considered, I would ask you to contact Mrs Creasey.

Chair of Governors Announcement: Sadly we say goodbye to Ramon Gray the Chair of Governors.
Ramon has provided a significant amount of support to the school and has been instrumental in securing feeder status and the new build for Manby Lodge.
We would like to thank him for the commitment and dedication that he has given to Manby Lodge over the last few years.
Ramon has always had the best interests of the children at heart and we wish him all the best with his future adventures.
We are very fortunate that he will continue to be a valued friend of the school.
I am delighted to be able to introduce to you Bernie Pryor who has been elected by the Governing Body as the new Chair of Governors.

Reception
We have had a very busy and exciting half term in Reception.
We have taken part in International Week, learning about France, India and the USA as well as having a go at Bollywood dancing and African drumming.
We were all extremely resilient at sports day, taking our time and picking up the eggs in the egg and spoon race. We all had a great time taking part and cheering our friends on.
We have tested our noses by trying to recognise different smells in our classrooms. We have even helped look after and hold the baby chicks. We got to hold and stroke other animals during our Zoolab workshops including a snake, rabbit, tarantula and giant millipede.
We celebrated the Queen’s birthday with a picnic in the hall. In our role-play areas we have enjoyed pretending to work in a hospital, school and restaurant. We have had so much fun putting on talent shows and performing songs and dances on our outside stage.
Year One
We have had a fantastic last half term in Year 1!
We were invited on a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Sunrise Senior Living Care Home where we sang lots of nursery rhymes and had a delicious picnic with the residents.
During International Week we got on a plane and arrived at our destinations. Whilst there we did lots of art work and learnt fun, cultural facts. We also had a visit from Punch and Judy, which we all really enjoyed!
To end our half term we had a visit from Jack who left us some magic beans and a letter. The beans grew into a beanstalk, which we then used as inspiration to write our own fairy tale.
Year Two
Over the last few weeks the children in Year 2 have visited their new schools and have met their new teachers.
They have also enjoyed practising for their leavers’ assembly, which they are looking forward to performing for their parents.
Last term, our topics in Science were Plants and Animals Including Humans. We investigated the different properties of plants, what plants need to grow and stay healthy. We looked at what plants were in the local area and how plants survive in extreme climates. We also learnt about the importance of eating healthily, exercising and hygiene for humans.
In English, the children read stories about dragons and identified different types of sentences, orally retelling stories and understanding contractions and conjunctions. The children wrote for different purposes and focused on how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly.
In Mathematics, the children learnt to recognise the value of each digit in 2 and 3 digit numbers. They practised ordering numbers and focused on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
For Geometry, the children learnt to identify and describe the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. In Measure, they estimated, measured and chose appropriate standard measures.
We have some staff changes in September.
Sadly we say goodbye to Miss Bines and Mr Neivens.
Miss Bines is moving back home to Brighton and has a new job in a school near where she will be living. Mr Neivens is leaving the teaching profession to become a Family Support Worker.
We would like to thank them for the wonderful job that they have done teaching and supporting our children and wish them all every success in the future.
We welcome Mr Davis and Miss Allum who will be joining the Reception team as Cygnet and Gosling Class Teachers. We also welcome Mr Cook who will be teaching across the school.
They bring with them a wealth of experience and skills and they are very excited to be joining Manby Lodge, getting to know your children and working in partnership with you.
Well done to the Year 1 children who entered this competition.
They had a lovely day creating their “ Intergalactic Space Garden” at Wisley Gardens. They were great ambassadors for the school and were awarded Gold for their entry.
A big thank you to all the
green fingered Mums and Dads who helped, we could not have done it without them.
