Equality, Inclusion and Diversity

Under the Public Sector Equality Duty we are required to:
  • Eliminate discrimination and other prohibited conduct
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don’t
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don’t

At Manby Lodge Infant School we comply with this duty. We have an Equality Policy which is updated every 4 years. This is reviewed by the Full Governing Body. Our Chair of Governors is our Equality Link Role Governor.

At Manby Lodge we work on:
Eliminating discrimination by:
  • Publishing policies relating to behaviour management, anti-bullying and recruitment and selection. These are available on the Policies page of our website. Our Equality Policy is also available here.
  • Training Staff and Governors on inclusion and diversity.
  • Revisiting inclusion and diversity with Staff and Governors regularly, throughout the year.
  • We monitor equality issues that arise, for example in recruitment, and also in attendance and behaviour.
Advancing equality of opportunity by:
  • Analysing attainment data showing how our pupils with different characteristics are performing
  • Ensuring that our School Development Plan is drawn up once we have analysed information in response to the above data
  • Monitoring various aspects of school life. Evidence shows improvements for specific groups, such as a decline in poor attendance, or incidents of poor behaviour
  • Focusing on the progress and attainment of Pupil Premium children, in 2023-24.

Rule of Law

  • The school behaviour policy is shared with all stakeholders
  • School values are embedded throughout school life
  • The school has six golden rules and class rules are also created by each class
  • Weekly celebration assemblies reward behaviour
Fostering good relations by:
  • Following the Jigsaw Scheme of work for PSHE. In the Autumn term we cover a unit of work in all year groups called ‘Celebrating Differences’. This part of the curriculum promotes tolerance, friendship, and understanding of a range of religions and cultures. Through our RE and World Views curriculum we also offer all children the opportunity to learn about religions and beliefs which are different to their own. We bring learning to life, for example, in Year 1 children visit a Synagogue.
  • Learning about different people and communities through themed assemblies.
  • Every year in the Summer Term we hold an ‘international week’ where children in every class learn about a different part of the world. This compliments our Geography curriculum.
  • Being involved with our local community also helps us to better understand the diverse society in which we live. Visitors to school include parents sharing information about their own religions and beliefs. We also invite people in a range of different professions to come into school to share what life is like for them.
