Equality, Inclusion and Diversity

.

At Manby Lodge Infant School we adhere to the Equality Act 2010.

We recognise that certain groups in society can be disadvantaged because of unlawful discrimination they may face due to their race, sex, age, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, religion/belief, sexual orientation or any other condition or requirement which places a person at a disadvantage and cannot be justified.

We also recognise that some groups of children in our school may be at a disadvantage compared to other children.

These groups include but are not limited to:

  • Socioeconomically disadvantaged children (those in receipt of Pupil Premium funding)
  • Children with SEN (children with SEN Support, or with an EHCP)
  • Children who are known (or previously known to children’s social care, such as children with a Support or Social Worker or children who are Looked-After)
  • Children who may face other barriers to their learning and or well being, which may include those who share a protected characteristic

We have a range strategies and systems in place in our school to eliminate prejudice, unlawful discrimination and victimisation within school, with our children and the wider school community and workforce.

At Manby Lodge we treat all children fairly and with respect. This involves providing access and opportunities for all pupils without discrimination of any kind.

We actively promote educational equity by:

  • Knowing each child and their family individually and responding to their needs, incorporating diverse backgrounds, experiences and learning styles into daily practice to create a sense of belonging.
  • Actively addressing stereotypes among staff and children to foster a positive respectful environment.
  • Investing in professional development to ensure high-quality teaching. We prioritise CPD for teachers and support staff alike and we value to contribution and skills and experience of all our members of staff.
  • Focusing on whole-child development and supporting children’s well-being – so that all children feel safe and welcome, which enables them to participate and learn, and to develop the skills they will needs for ongoing success in life.

We are committed to creating positive and engaging learning environments for all children. Our intent is to offer a curriculum that is inspiring, inclusive and ambitious. We openly encourage active participation; it is our aim to ensure that all pupils reach or exceed their full potential and ‘Be the Best they can’.

Our curriculum introduces our children to the diverse nature of our nation and the world through assemblies and our schemes of work across all National Curriculum subjects. This exposes children to the wide range of cultures and families that exist in modern day England, and incorporates fundamental British Values.
