Tiger Class Shared Learning

By | 2023-2024 School Year | No Comments

A HUGE thank you to the lovely Tiger grown-ups who came along to our recent Shared Learning on Wednesday! We hope you enjoyed it. The children came up with some amazing vocabulary for Mr Twit and had a great time describing him this week. We are really proud of how enthusiastic and keen they are towards their learning and the enjoyment they show for the stories and text we explore in our English lessons.

We also had a Geologist come in on Wednesday and teach us all about different rocks and how they are made and used in everyday life. This linked to our science unit materials and the children loved holding all the different types of rocks.

Reception had a super exciting afternoon! The firefighters came into our classroom and told us all about the important job that the fire service do. We learnt about the importance of calling 999 in an emergency and keeping away from fire. Afterwards everybody had a turn at sitting inside the fire engine and squirting the hose.

The children had great fun taking part in  the Flo on the Road workshop last week. We were able to learn about the life of Florence Nightingale and how she transformed the conditions in Scutari Hospital. We enjoyed role playing as nurses to ensure that the Hospital was hygienic and able to run effectively, and  compared uniforms from the past and present day.

BBC Story Writing Competition

We are delighted to share that some of the children who entered the BBC 500 Words Story Writing Competition have made it through to the Second Stage. The BBC received thousands of entries and only around 5,000 go through for the second round of judging by the Reading Agency.

A huge well done to Arik in Hedgehog Class, Eddie and Meredith in Lion Class and Cemre in Tiger Class!

We were pleased that so many Manby children entered this competition. All children who entered received a certificate from us in school and Mrs Hughes and I picked three top winners.

Each of these children won a Waterstones Book Token and read out their stories to Year 1 and Year 2 classes in Assembly yesterday. Well done to Arik in Hedgehog Class, Meredith in Lion Class and Luna in Leopard Class.

The stories were really good so we will be posting copies of each one on the school website gallery page so that you can read them too.
